In 2019, founding member of KPI, Sarah, attended two sold-out BTS movie showings and realized there were hundreds of BTS fans in the Indianapolis area. She thought, “What would it look like to create a group of local kpop fans?” Starting with social media, she got busy creating Twitter and Instagram accounts and began finding the kpop community in Indiana. After building a significant following, she decided the best way to get the word out and meet other kpop fans was to plan a gathering around Korean BBQ. And with that, KPI was officially founded on September 17, 2019.

Building the kpop Indiana community and hosting events were Sarah’s primary goals. But, she needed a team to help her achieve these goals, so she recruited a like-minded admin team full of kpop and kdrama fans. Now, over 3 years later, the team has grown exponentially and continues to achieve goals beyond Sarah’s initial dreams. KPI has now grown from 5 supporters to more than 350 registered members!
